Mosquitos & Bite Prevention

We are officially heading into summer, which means all kinds of mosquitos are starting to show their faces. One of the most common bugs that are around during the summertime is non-other than the mosquito. You know that their season is here when you’re swimming, out for a BBQ, or even just hanging out outside. When you come home from having this fun and start to itch, you notice a bunch of red bumps all over your body. Great news, it’s mosquito season. Since we are ramping up for this time, we have a few tips to be prepared. Let’s face it, no one likes coming home with a bunch of red spots all over their body, and sometimes that prevents us from going outside. So enjoy your summer this year and follow these tips to get prepared during this buggy time.

Avoid Working or Playing Outside During Their Active Time

This may be hard to hear, but mosquito’s come out the most during dawn or dusk. This may be a time for BBQs to start or late-night swims. However, to avoid these different types of bites, you might want to think about enjoying these activities earlier in the afternoon or later in the morning. This could save you those pesky bumps.

Apply Insect Repellent To Prevent Mosquito Bites

Spraying Insect & Mosquito Repellent

This should be as common as sunscreen, but when you go outside, make sure that you are applying insect repellent before hitting the outdoors. This can easily be the difference between having tons of itchy bumps on your skin to having nothing at all. You can constantly re-apply for even better protection from these pesky bugs.

Wear Proper Clothes to Shield From Mosquitos

It is easy to want to wear less clothing during the summertime than usual due to the 80 and up-to-degree weather. With that being said, if you’re planning on being outside near tons of nature, like taking a hike, fishing, walking, or other areas that could have tons of mosquitos around, you may want to think about what you are wearing. Having closed-toed shoes or longer sleeves on your pants or shirts could make a huge difference. Also, invest in dry fit or breezy clothing, so the longer dress doesn’t affect how hot you are.

Whoever you are, mosquitos are not to be messed with, and not the greatest of all times when you’re scratching away, give IMEL a call today if you are experiencing more than average amounts of them around your home; we are more than happy to help!
