A Pest Control Company, Dedicated To You
At IMEL Pest Control, dependable pest and termite treatments are in our history. We’re a family-owned and operated company that takes pride ridding homes and businesses of unsightly pests and hazardous termite infestations. My grandfather began his pest control business in Somerset, Kentucky and the tradition of quality service and friendly customer care has been passed down for over four generations.
In 1967, our parents, Ralph & Tina, started their very own pest treatment business out of their home in Bethalto, Illinois. Armed with only a sprayer and a truck, Dad sprayed homes and Mom answered phones and kept things in order. Over the years, they stuck to the golden rule and relied on dedicated service and a friendly attitude to keep the business going.
However, this was truly a family-run operation, and Jill and I (Jan) pitched in wherever we could. I helped Mom take care of our customers at the office while Jill began spraying homes at age 20; she’s still one of our most knowledgeable and valued technicians to this day.
Even as Jill and I have taken over the business, we’ve never forgotten the lessons of hard work and courteous service instilled in us by our parents. We’re grateful for each customer that we serve and give our thanks to those that have made us the Metro East leader in termite & pest control!
Your Metro East Termite Control Specialists
When it comes to pest infestations, termites are among the most dangerous to your family and your home. Many times you won’t see or notice these pests that feed on wood and the structure of your home. However, you can notice the signs of termite damage and be vigilant when it comes to asking for a termite inspection from your local professional. At IMEL, we provide free termite inspections for home and business owners, and we provide inspections for VA and FHA loans. Unfortunately, termites can be found anywhere that there’s something for them to feed on; from furniture to the walls of your home, your IMEL pest professional will know just what to do.
Spot the Signs of Termite Damage
• Buckling or swollen floors & ceilings
• Damaged wood that crumbles easily
• Solid wood surfaces that sound hollow when tapped
• Tube or tunnel-like structures that lead to the home
• Presence of Flying Ants or Termite Swarmers
Common Species of Termites
• Dampwood Termites • Drywood Termites • Formosan Termites • Subterranean Termites
All species have different behaviors and nesting habits. Your IMEL professional will know what type you have and how to treat them!
How to Eliminate Termites
Thankfully, IMEL provides thorough inspections that spot any and all termite damage. Additionally, we utilize the Sentricon Active Colony Elimination System. This award-winning system uses bait stations that are designed to attract feeding termites.
Once termites feed on the bait, it’s carried throughout their system of tunnels and into their nest, which affects the maximum amount of termites. Furthermore, this system uses less pesticide than traditional methods and bait traps are set where termites are known to be active, ensuring the complete elimination of the entire colony.

Identify Your Pest Problem
Carpenter Bees – 1 – 1 ½ inches long with a shiny black abdomen. They look like a bumble bee but will make their nest in wood structures.
Hornets – Mostly black with white or yellow markings depending on the species. Their large, tear-dropped shaped nests are made in trees, shrubs, or even attached to buildings.
Yellow Jackets – Black and yellow banded flying insects that make their nests in many of the same places hornets do including trees, shrubs, and man-made structures.
Wasps – These long and slender flying insects retain an orange to brownish color and build their nests on the underside of roofs and ledges. Nests are umbrella-shaped with a honeycomb pattern on the bottom.
Cockroaches – Multiple species of roaches range from light to dark brown and even black. They prefer dark, damp and humid spaces making bathrooms, kitchens, attics, and basements optimal locations.
Boxelder Bugs – A lesser known pest, these harmless bugs are black and orange and may find refuge under siding, and other protected areas of your home’s structure during the winter months.
Brown Recluse Spiders – This is the most deadly spider known to roam the Metro East area. They can be spotted by a brown, violin-shaped mark on their back and prefer cool dark areas of the home. Seek medical attention immediately if bitten.
Carpenter Ants – This species of ant is dark to reddish-brown and usually makes its home in decaying wood. However, if you notice piles of sawdust and haven’t been sawing anything, you may have a carpenter ant problem.
House Ants – These can be dark brown or black, and they like to hand ground food and water. They may nest in walls, or crevices in your home.
Pharoah Ant – Yellowish-brown in color, these will make a nest pretty much anywhere, but prefer areas near food and water, and may use utility lines hidden in walls as a means of travel.
Flying Ants – Flying ants are wood-boring insects that have two pairs of wings, one in the front and one in the back.
Termite Swarmers – These are termites that have left to start a new colony. They have straight antennae and two pairs of identical wings.
Silverfish – White to brownish-gray, these insects hang around in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, attics and basements and they prefer humid climates. They can be identified by three long bristles sticking out of the backend and two antennae.
Mites – These tiny bugs are brown as adults and red when they are young. They like to gather around mold and other fungi that occur in damp places.
Fleas – These tiny brown bugs are visible to the human eye and, many times, will enter the home on the back of a pet. These insects will manifest anywhere they can feed on a host.
